Colin Farrell spent an emotional weekend participating in the Irish Life Dublin Marathon, teaming up with his long-time friend Emma Fogarty. On October 27, the pair raised more than $850,000 for Debra Ireland through their efforts in the marathon.
Farrell, 48, joined Fogarty for the final 2.5 miles, pushing her wheelchair to the finish line. Fogarty, 40, who has a rare genetic skin condition called epidermolysis bullosa (EB), beamed with joy, lifting her arms as they completed the race, as reported by Irish Central.
Images from the event captured Farrell smiling as he pushed Fogarty along the route. Despite the physical challenge, he finished the marathon in just over four hours. After crossing the line, Farrell shared a hug with Fogarty and jokingly asked, “Want to go again?” as seen in video clips posted on X.
Farrell later reflected on the race, stating to The Irish Times that Emma’s resilience has always inspired him. “Emma’s bravery and determination are truly remarkable, and it’s been a privilege to know her all these years,” he said.
The actor expressed that while the marathon was challenging, it paled in comparison to what Fogarty experiences daily. “She faces unimaginable pain every day, yet she never lets it show,” he added.
Farrell also shared that finishing the last 4 kilometers with Fogarty felt deeply meaningful. “Each kilometer symbolized a decade of her life, and crossing that finish line together is a moment I’ll cherish forever,” he said.
Debra Ireland confirmed that the funds raised will be directed toward critical services, research, and support for those living with EB, often referred to as “butterfly skin.” The marathon also marked a special milestone for Fogarty, who celebrated her 40th birthday — an achievement for someone with her condition.
Earlier in October, the duo appeared on The Late Late Show in Ireland, where Farrell discussed his plan to push Fogarty for 1 kilometer for each decade of her life, totaling 4 kilometers or 2.5 miles.
When asked what Farrell’s presence meant to her during the race, Fogarty said it meant a great deal. “We’re really close, and we always have the best time together,” she shared with a smile. As the audience applauded, Fogarty added, “There’s no one I trust more, outside of my family, to push me through that final stretch.”
