Kylian Mbappe will officially stay at PSG. The confirmation came just before the PSG vs Metz game kicked off. This concludes the long Real Madrid saga. Mbappe was poised for a move to Madrid. He even submitted a transfer request for the move. However, a year down the line, Mbappe stays at PSG. This will come as a blow for Madrid. They were already planning his arrival at the club. An incredible twist of fate means that Madrid won’t get their man. Notably, Mbappe joined PSG in 2017 for a fee of 180mil. euros.
Spain’s La Liga would have benefitted from the acquisition of Mbappe. At 23, he has the potential to be the world’s best. Moreover, there seemed to be no debate over this move. Kylian Mbappe stays at PSG: What does it mean for the French club?
Mbappe is a huge talent. Keeping him at the club offers PSG a lot of perks. Goals, headlines, flamboyance. However, they will also be wary of Mbappe. His current PSG deal contains astronomical figures. He will now earn more than a million euros weekly. There’s an additional signing bonus of over €100 million. Furthermore, he is expected to have his say on boardroom decisions. Such an expansive contract could easily lead to a mess. But if you ask the Frenchman, he has not renewed for these reasons. He believes PSG will provide him with the right platform to grow as a player. Besides, he also intends to win the Champions League(CL) with the club. Notably, no French club has won the competition since 1993. Now that Mbappe stays at PSG, that record could well be broken.
What next for Real Madrid?
Madrid has had a stellar 2021/22 season. They’re already the Spanish champions. Furthermore, they have the Champions League final to play. The venue for the final? PSG’s Parc des Princes. Mbappe, in a statement, has thanked Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.
However, Madrid will now shift their focus to other options. Besides, there are some big names linked. Will Cristiano Ronaldo return? Or will Mo Salah join them? Perez has a big summer ahead. But for now, Madrid fans have the CL final to look forward to.
