Amber Heard Requests A Mistrial In Johnny Depp Defamation Case; Alleges Wrong Juror Appeared In Court

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard

Amber Heard claims that an incorrect juror was selected for the jury. She has now requested that the defamation case against Johnny Depp to be ruled as a mistrial. Based on recently obtained material and the knowledge that Juror No. 15 was not the person summoned for jury duty on April 11, 2022. Amber Heard’s attorneys claim that she is entitled to a mistrial.

Amber Heard Claims The Wrong Person Sat In Johnny Depp’s Defamation Case

According to the paperwork submitted to the Circuit Court of Fairfax County, the person chosen for the jury was 77 years old at the time. They had the same last name and address as someone who is 52. He served as a juror throughout the six-week trial. According to Amber Heard’s legal team, it was a younger person. And not the one who was initially summoned.

The actress’s attorneys said she was not provided “due process.” “It is deeply troubling for an individual not summoned for jury duty nonetheless to appear for jury duty and serve on a jury. Especially in a situation such as this,” the filing says. They also went on to note the “high-profile” status of the trial as the jury trial date was highly publicized before and after the issuance of the juror summonses.”

Amber Heard Delivered A 43-Page Letter To A Virginia Court

One week after Heard’s attorney requested that the verdict be overturned entirely, the motion for a mistrial was made. On July 2, Amber Heard delivered a 43-page letter to a Virginia court. She claimed that the facts did not adequately support the verdict.

Amber Heard’s attorney said that it was improper for Depp to lose his role in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series due to Amber Heard’s statement claims from a Washington Post piece. According to Amber Heard’s legal team, Depp’s actions are exclusively based on the principle of ‘defamation by implication,’ abandoning any assertions that Ms. Amber Heard’s statements were, in fact, untrue.

Johnny Depp Won On All Three Counts Of Defamation

In his lawsuit against Heard last month, the actor won on all three counts of defamation, and a jury decided to give him $15 million in damages. Because Virginia law caps punitive damages at $10.35 million. Heard will only have to pay that amount. Heard, 36, received $2 million in settlement money for her counterclaims.
