75-year-old Steven Spielberg has a career of more than 50 years in directing. He has made over 34 featured films, five short films, and several television films and series. And after all these years, he finally decided to direct a music video collaborating with Marcus Mumford, pitching in to help him shoot the video for his debut solo album. Mumford declared his solo “Cannibal,” the first song from his upcoming album last week.
He revealed the news through Instagram, showing the genius behind the video directed in one, continuous take. Spielberg himself recorded Mumford in a high school gym on July 3 and successfully shot the video on his phone. Mumford is a member of the British rock band Mumford & Sons, including Ted Dwane and Ben Lovett.

Spielberg also collaborated with his wife, Kate Capshaw as the video’s producer, art director, and Dolly Grip. In a photo Mumford shared, the latter can be seen dragging Spielberg backward in a rolling chair. Kristie Macosko Krieger, a producer, was on-site and captured some of the behind-the-scenes video footage. All three acted and posed with Mumford and his wife Carey Mulligan, who was credited with “outfits and sound” on the video.
Mumford wrote on his Instagram, saying he is overwhelmed because of the support people are providing around him for his music, and he cannot express his gratitude. Then he thanks Kate and Spielberg and say he cannot thank them enough. Even at 75, Spielberg continues to amaze us as a filmmaker. Last year, he directed his first musical, “West Side Story,” and his forthcoming film, “The Fabelmans,” is a personal drama about his youth. Mumford’s debut solo album will also have ten songs, with “Cannibal” leading the charge.
