The Terrifying True Story Behind ‘The Watcher’ On Netflix

Netflix original has recently released a terrifying miniseries, The Watcher, which is based on real events from the Broaddus family’s experience and created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, of the most prolific men in television history. Following the success of The Dahmer Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Ryan Murphy brings fans one more spooky seasonal treat ahead of next week’s American His Horror Story: NYC.

But Murphy and his team lack the wit and fighting spirit they once had. Compare this to Murphy’s massive franchise starter, American Horror Story: Murder House. Still, the project is so far behind in comparison that it fails to see danger in its subject matter. Despite the fleeting attempt to escape, it’s an exercise in overwriting rather than what seems to arrive at the eerie, unsettling instability that used to mark Murphy’s best projects.

Netflix’s new limited series, The Watcher, has officially arrived on the streaming service. The show is based on the true story of a stalker who terrorizes a New Jersey homeowner with a spooky letter, but the dramatization is a bit of a departure from the true story. Of course, we’ve created a detailed timeline of what happened in Warden’s house.

Thus we can analyze it properly (and also the miniseries two episodes of the haunted house podcast, Dark House, dedicated to the analysis of strange stories). This home at 657 Boulevard in the small suburban town of Westfield, New Jersey, was built in 1905.

Inspired by the Dutch colonial era, the clapboard house has six bedrooms and four bathrooms on 3,869 square feet. Their excitement quickly turned to horror when Derek and Maria Broaddus began receiving threatening letters from The Watcher when he bought a house for around $1.4 million in June 2014.

The anonymous letters claimed the house had been an obsession to The Watcher family for decades and had been tasked with watching over it since the anonymous sender’s father’s death, and the mystery of the Guardian’s identity began. The family Broaddus sued the former homeowner in 2015, claiming they should have disclosed earlier letters from Watchers, and the story went viral.

Instead, the story got the Hollywood treatment. On Thursday, Netflix premiered The Watcher. It stars Union City’s Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale as a wife and husband who move into a beautiful new home with their family and are threatened by an anonymous letter writer. Took artistic liberty.

Several words from real letters appear in the series, including the infamous “Young Blood” line. By reading this, you all must have understood what the actual, or we can say that what was the real story behind The Watcher was. Later, the tone of the first letter quickly became far less friendly. One of the unknown authors claimed that their home was located just 45 minutes outside the New-York city.

Cast Of The Watcher

The Watcher cast includes Naomi Watts as Nora Brannock, Noma Dumezweni as Theodora Birch, Richard Kind as Mitch, Henry Hunter Hall as Dakota, Luke David Blumm as Carter Brannock, Jennifer Coolidge as Karen Calhoun, and Danny Garcia. Many other crew members eventually worked for The Watcher to happen very successfully.

What Will The Watcher Do Next?

Two weeks after the first letter, another letter arrived. Mrs. Broaddus and Mr. Broaddus were eventually called by The Watchers, as is mentioned by their first names, which are their surname. Derek and Maria were concerned about how much information this person knew about them and their families, including their children’s names and birth order.

Due to the renovation and Broaddus family had not yet moved into their new home, and The Watcher seemed to be waiting until the renovation was done. The Watcher said in the first letter, “Dearest new neighbor at 657 Boulevard, allow me to welcome you to the neighborhood. My grandfather watched the house in the 1920s, and my father watched it in the 1960s. It is now my time.”

The Watcher asked whether the Broadduses knew about the history of the family home. “Do you know what lies within the walls of 657 Boulevard? Why are you here?” it was reported that the police searched the Broaddus family home. However, they found nothing in the walls.

After the Watchers send the second letter, the couple, Derek and Maria, eventually stop bringing their kids to their new home. After a few weeks, they both received another letter again, in which it was questioned where they had been gone to. Now, The Watcher said that 657 Boulevard is missing you very badly. Later, when the Broaddus family closed their property in six months, they purchased a new house worth $1.4 million.

In the year 2016, the Broadduses tried to sell the house one more time, but the letter of their recent house was a no-go for potential buyers. Many people are asking after they see this whether the Watchers have been caught or not. The simple answer to this question is they have not been caught yet. And in the year 2019, the family eventually sold the house for $959,000, resulting in a $400,000 loss for the house in which they lived.
