Human Nature’s Toby Allen is a father of two! And, as it turns out, so is his boyfriend. The singer’s sexual orientation has never been a big secret, and he’s been considerably more open about his relationship after getting married. Toby and his husband, Darren Weller, have been partners for fifteen years and have been talking about starting a family for ”a long time”.
“We adore children – we’ve spoken about it a lot,” the singer says. The couple looked for a surrogate mother in California while preparing a nursery at their Las Vegas residence. The musical quartet has found huge success in Vegas after fleeing its initial bubble of stardom in Australia for bigger spotlights in the United States.
Toby is a singer of the pop ensemble Human Nature, which also includes Andrew and Mike Tierney, formerly Phil Burton. They created a band while still in high school, all of them schoolmates with an experience in the choir. Telling Everybody, their debut album, was released in 1996 and earned triple platinum; it is regarded as one of Australia’s most profitable debut albums.
They’ve continued to produce chart-topping albums, went on tour with Michael Jackson and Celine Dion, and sang the national anthem at the 2000 Olympics. They have been affiliated with Motown legends such as Smokey Robinson and Mary Wilson since 2005, and after touring in the United States in 2008, they established a regular act on the Strip in Las Vegas.
While much has been written about the band, little is known about the people behind the wonderful vocals. Toby Allen talks about his sexuality and family in one of his first American solo interviews. While he loves to joke that the determining factor in their accomplishment is that they don’t sleep together, he claims that it is their friendship that has managed to keep them together throughout these years.
Toby Allen Reveals His Coming Out To His Family And Friends
In an Interview with Huffpost, Allen revealed how being open about his sexuality helped him feel more secure about himself. Here’s what he said, “There are so many different situations, and everyone has their struggles, I guess. I was at a boarding school, and being into music, I was sort of a natural target. At the same time, I was discovering more about myself, so I really wasn’t out at school. In fact,
it wasn’t until I went to university and was exposed to other ways of life that I felt more secure to go out and be more myself. Luckily I had a loving family who loved me for who I was, so it was sort of a non-issue. Most people said they knew anyway, which I am sure happens a lot. I didn’t struggle so much. Maybe when I was in school, but there wasn’t much of a struggle after that.
I feel bad for people who struggle, and I hope they can find someone who can be a support. I think a lot of people knew I was gay, but it never became an issue, which was really lovely,” he said in an interview with New Idea. “I haven’t hidden away from it, but I haven’t searched out that publicity either. All of us in Human Nature has always preferred to keep our private lives private and just let people enjoy the music.”
Meet Darren Weller, Toby Allen’s Husband, Theater Actor, And A Father Of Two
Human Nature’s Toby Allen has been a father for almost ten years, with the musician stating that he and long-term partner Darren Weller are looking forward to the birth of twins via surrogacy. The couple, who met at a charity tennis match in Sydney in 2005 but managed to keep their loving relationship private till 2013, were living together in Las Vegas, where Australia’s most popular boy band had a two-year performing residency at The Venetian casino.
Darren has acted in a number of television shows, including All Saints and White Collar Blue, although he is primarily a theatre actor. He is well recognized for his role as Julian Assange in the “Wiki play,” Stainless Steel Rat/Man in the Middle, which has previously been performed in Sydney and London.
The play was revised on a regular basis to accommodate changing events. According to reports by Confidential, the couple spent years investigating the surrogacy procedure before deciding on a woman in California who was due that month.
Darren Weller, a 34-year-old performance artist who last appeared as Julian Assange in the 2011 Seymour Centre piece Stainless Steel Rat, will be the stay-at-home dad while Allen performs the Human Nature Motown Concert. “They are really lucky because Toby works at night, so they will be together with the kids during the day,” Confidential was informed by a source.
