No, it’s not October 3rd, but that didn’t deter The Plastics from reuniting. Nearly two decades after the beloved cult teen comedy, “Mean Girls,” graced the silver screen, some of the original cast members gathered for a surprise commercial project in Los Angeles on a Friday.
Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried, and Lacey Chabert were seen alongside camera crews on a Los Angeles football field.
In the 2004 film, Lohan, at 37 years old, portrayed Cady Heron, a student who had recently moved from Africa and found herself as an outsider in her high school. It was here that she encountered the complex world of social hierarchies, meeting the teenage queen bees Karen Smith (Seyfried), Gretchen Wieners (Chabert), and their leader Regina George (Rachel McAdams) — collectively known as The Plastics. McAdams, who is now 44, was not present for the shoot.
The ladies appeared all smiles, with Seyfried, aged 37, and Chabert, aged 41, donning attire reminiscent of The Plastics, complete with the iconic pink theme. Seyfried was spotted driving a silver convertible, similar to the one featured in the famous “Get in loser — we’re going shopping” scene from the film.
In another photo, Seyfried held a microphone while wearing a blazer, possibly a nod to her role in “Mean Girls” when she delivered a school weather report that famously included the line, “There’s a 30 percent chance it’s already raining” when it was indeed already raining.
While on set, Lohan, dressed in all black, carried a zipped pouch with the label “Plastics Club Member.” The details of this reunion project are being kept tightly under wraps, but it coincides with a significant milestone next year — the 20th anniversary of the original film’s release.
Twenty years after the film’s debut, the “Mean Girls Musical Movie” is set to make its premiere. Tina Fey, the mastermind behind both the original film and Broadway musical, announced this exciting project in January 2020. The 53-year-old Saturday Night Live alum will reprise her role as Ms. Norbury, the beloved teacher who, at one point, is falsely accused of being a “drug pusher.”
The new film will feature Fey alongside Tim Meadows, who returns as Principal Duvall. In February, Seyfried revealed to Entertainment Tonight that she and her former co-stars are “100 percent into” making cameo appearances. However, it remains uncertain whether they will indeed be involved in the musical, which features Angourie Rice, Reneé Rapp, Auliʻi Cravalho, Jaquel Spivey, and Bebe Wood.
On Tuesday, Paramount Pictures celebrated October 3rd by sharing the entire “Mean Girls” movie in mini clips on TikTok. The date holds significance as it refers to a memorable scene in the film when Heron’s crush, Aaron Samuels, asks her what day it is during a math class.
For fans interested in watching the entire film, it can be found on YouTube with ads and on Paramount+. Additionally, the classic is available for purchase on Amazon and iTunes.
