It’s not uncommon for celebrities to have lookalikes who happen to be stars themselves. Some well-known individuals bear such a striking resemblance that even fans can occasionally get mixed up. Recently, Jessica Simpson found herself in a rather amusing situation when she was mistaken for Britney Spears, but she took it in stride.
During a weekend shopping trip at a local mall, the “Irresistible” singer was approached by an enthusiastic fan requesting her autograph. However, unbeknownst to the fans, they had asked the wrong pop star for an autograph.
In response to this lighthearted mix-up, Simpson, who is 43 years old, humorously shared her reaction on X, previously known as Twitter, on Saturday. She posted a picture of herself with her 11-year-old daughter, Maxwell Drew, both making exaggerated shocked facial expressions, and wrote, “The face when someone in the parking lot at the mall asks you for your autograph, but expects you to sign it Britney Spears.”
Fans on X had their share of reactions to this mallgoer’s amusing blunder, with some playfully acknowledging the resemblance between the two superstars. While a few fans in Simpson’s comment section believed it was easy to tell them apart, the honest mistake wasn’t too surprising, considering their shared blonde hair and past comparisons during the height of their pop star careers, particularly during the MTV “TRL” era.
Even Britney Spears herself pointed out their debatable similarities in an Instagram post last December. She wrote, “Why do I look EXACTLY like Jessica Simpson ??? Also my face looks so pale 🤧🤧🤧🤔🤔🤔 !!!” alongside a photo of herself with a tight-lipped expression.
In February 2020, Jessica Simpson recalled to Entertainment Tonight that she, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguilera were often pitted against each other since they all “grew up in a very competitive environment” within the record labels. She emphasized that each of them had their unique career journeys and admired how Britney and Christina remained true to themselves and didn’t let the world control them.
Simpson expressed her admiration, saying, “Everybody has found their own way in such a beautiful, inspiring way. I just love it that everybody has remained authentically who they are. There’s so much room at the top! I mean, think about how many people are in heaven! Come on.”
