In an upcoming memoir titled “The Woman in Me,” Britney Spears, the iconic pop star, is finally sharing a deeply personal experience she has kept hidden for two decades. The 41-year-old singer discloses that during her relationship with Justin Timberlake, she found herself pregnant with his child and ultimately decided to have an abortion, as confirmed by PEOPLE.
Spears reflects on this pivotal moment in her life, stating, “It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated.” She goes on to reveal that Timberlake was less than enthusiastic about the pregnancy, telling her they weren’t prepared to welcome a child into their lives, deeming them too young. A representative for Justin Timberlake has not yet responded.
In her memoir, Spears shares her inner turmoil: “I don’t know if that was the right decision. If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father.” She describes the abortion as “one of the most agonizing experiences” of her life.
Following her breakup with Timberlake in 2002, Spears became a mother, welcoming two sons, Sean Preston (18) and Jayden James (17), with her second husband, Kevin Federline.
Scheduled for release on October 24, Spears’ highly anticipated memoir will be published by Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster. This revealing account arrives nearly two years after her release from a 13-year-long court-ordered conservatorship, which was officially terminated in November 2021 following Spears’ impassioned public testimony in June of that year.
The memoir promises to unveil “for the first time her incredible journey and the strength at the core of one of the greatest performers in pop music history,” according to a press release from Gallery Books. It is anticipated to shed light on the enduring power of music and love, as well as the significance of a woman telling her own story on her own terms.
