In the upcoming 2024 film “The Fall Guy,” directed by David Leitch, the spotlight falls on Ryan Gosling as Colt, an aging stuntman grappling with a challenging assignment. This mission thrusts him back into the world of his former flame, portrayed by Emily Blunt, who is stepping into her directorial debut. Adding a layer of complexity, the film’s star, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, vanishes—a star who had previously fired Colt in a highly publicized incident.
Vanity Fair has granted a sneak peek, well ahead of the theatrical release of “The Fall Guy,” with a series of exclusive photographs featuring Ryan Gosling in heart-pounding action sequences. These captivating shots encompass daring moments like being towed behind a speeding vehicle on a bustling highway and hanging precariously from a towering crane. Among the images, there’s a snapshot capturing the awkward reunion between Gosling’s character and Emily Blunt in the desert, as well as one showcasing the actor donning his character’s attire complete with sunglasses and a cowboy hat.
Given their established A-list notoriety, it’s a little odd that Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling haven’t collaborated on a project until now. Though they have been together on talk shows and at award shows, such as when they co-starred as presenters at the 2016 Oscars, they have never shared a screen until “The Fall Guy.”
Still, their combination in this movie seems like a good fit. Gosling’s past work as a stuntman, most notably his part as a sophisticated stunt driver in “Drive,” directed by Nicolas Winding Refn in 2011, exemplifies his versatility. Even while “The Fall Guy” has a lighter tone than “Drive,” which is a serious and intense drama, Gosling knows how to play humor, as seen in roles like Ken in “Barbie.”
Emily Blunt, on the other hand, has made a name for herself as an action heroine in films such as “Edge of Tomorrow” and “Sicario,” and she is a perfect match for Ryan Gosling because of her ability to forge strong bonds with captivating male leads such as Dwayne Johnson in “Jungle Cruise” and Tom Cruise in “Edge of Tomorrow.”
