It’s believed that Barbie and Ken will attend the forthcoming Golden Globes, but the event organizers are having trouble finding a host with enough “Kenthusiasm.” CNN has discovered that there is still a search for a host despite the announcement of the Globe nominees on Monday. Reportedly, at least four additional A-list comedy actors, including two-time Oscar presenter Chris Rock, have turned down offers to host the event on January 7th. The source is aware of the talks that took place.
Last seen at a significant awards ceremony in 2022, Chris Rock—who was also considered to host the previous Golden Globes—became well-known after making a joke at the Oscars that resulted in a run-in with Will Smith. It’s probable that Rock will be nominated for an award at the presentation in the new category of best stand-up comedy on television for his Netflix special, “Chris Rock: Selective Outrage.”
Puck stated that Ali Wong, who might be nominated for her work in the Netflix comedy “Beef,” was also approached to host the Globes but turned down the invitation.
A combined invitation to emcee the Globes was declined by “SmartLess” podcast hosts Will Arnett, Sean Hayes, and Jason Bateman. This would have been the first time the event featured three hosts since 1993.
There’s little chance that Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, who co-hosted the Globes four times to great acclaim, would return despite the trend of diminishing hosts. Poehler and Fey’s close friend stressed that they were finished with the project.
As per a source acquainted with the proceedings, the Golden Globes, which are set to relocate to a new broadcast location at CBS this year, are now in serious talks with three possible hosts. A move that NBC previously took, CBS may think about putting one of its own stars in front of three hours of free advertising.
It is not unusual for talented people to be reluctant to host large award presentations since they see it as an unappreciated and difficult job, especially for seasoned veterans. Even though the host is still up in the air, it is anticipated that nominees like Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert DeNiro, Martin Scorsese, and others will visit the Beverly Hilton ballroom at the Golden Globes.
With Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge Industries now in possession, the Golden Globes are still recuperating from the crisis that rocked the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) in 2021 over the absence of Black members. A boycott was sparked by the issue, and NBC decided not to televise the show in 2022. Calls for a protest have subsided in light of the new ownership and modifications; Hollywood publicists are reporting that their star clientele is excited to attend the Globes next month.
Though there was cause for optimism, the previous Jerrod Carmichael-hosted Golden Globes event on NBC saw a fall in viewership, with 6.3 million viewers overall—the second-lowest number of viewers in history. If the organizers are able to get a high-profile host, the event’s visibility might be increased.
