In a recent conversation with Howard Stern on SiriusXM (December 13), Morris provided an update on her ongoing separation from the 37-year-old songwriter. Describing the situation as still unfolding, she expressed her desire for the divorce proceedings to conclude. When Stern inquired about her readiness to enter the dating scene again, Morris explained that she currently lacks the mental space for it. Instead, she shared that her primary outlet for connection has been through her songwriting.
The news of Morris’ divorce filing emerged in October where she submitted a complaint to a Tennessee court citing the inability to live together successfully with Hurd after five years of marriage. The couple had a prenuptial agreement in place, dictating the division of their assets during the split. Morris also requested child support from Hurd for their 3-year-old son.
Despite the ongoing legal matters, Morris posted a Halloween photo weeks later, depicting her and Hurd accompanying their son, who was dressed as a dinosaur, for trick-or-treating. Reflecting on the challenges of the past year, Morris noted the prevalence of breakups and divorces among those close to her, emphasizing her personal growth symbolized by her new bob hairstyle, which she humorously described as cutting out all the trauma.
During the conversation, Morris opened up about facing rejection from major singing competition shows such as American Idol, America’s Got Talent, and The Voice. Acknowledging the disappointment, she expressed gratitude for those rejections, recognizing that she wasn’t prepared for the spotlight at the time. Morris admitted that her music and voice were still evolving, and being thrust into the limelight prematurely would have been a challenging experience.
