Newly unsealed court documents reveal that Kevin Alstrup, a diplomatic security officer with the State Department, faces charges of four misdemeanors for his alleged involvement in breaching the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.

The accusations include walking through the Capitol for approximately 28 minutes during the riot and capturing images on a digital camera.

Alstrup is now among a growing number of current and former federal employees charged in connection with the events of January 6. Notable individuals charged include a former DEA agent and a past Trump State Department appointee.

The State Department spokesperson confirmed Alstrup’s arrest, noting that he was a U.S. government contractor providing uniformed officer services for the State Department. However, the spokesperson directed further inquiries to the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.

As of now, Alstrup has not entered a formal plea in court, and he lacks a listed defense lawyer. According to charging documents, the FBI initially identified Alstrup’s alleged participation through social media posts, discovering his employment with the State Department.

Prosecutors highlighted Alstrup’s familiarity with providing security and protection for high-ranking government officials or sensitive locations, such as embassies, as part of his employment.

Additionally, prosecutors cited police body camera footage outside the Capitol that captured Alstrup leaving the building and navigating the restricted grounds.

The case adds to the ongoing legal actions against individuals linked to the January 6 insurrection, shedding light on the involvement of a diplomatic security officer in the events at the US Capitol.
