The Biden administration is reportedly planning to send additional weapons, including bombs, to Israel amidst ongoing conflict in Gaza, despite U.S. efforts to broker a ceasefire.

The Wall Street Journal, citing current and former U.S. officials, reported that the proposed arms delivery includes MK-82 bombs, KMU-572 Joint Direct Attack Munitions, and FMU-139 bomb fuses, valued at tens of millions of dollars.

The administration is said to be reviewing the proposed arms transfer internally, with details potentially subject to change before notifying congressional committee leaders for approval.

The report indicates that neither the U.S. State Department the Defense Department, nor Israeli defense authorities immediately responded to requests for comment on the matter.

Critics have voiced concerns over the Biden administration’s decision to supply arms to Israel, particularly in light of allegations that American-made weapons have been used in strikes resulting in civilian casualties.

The administration had reportedly bypassed congressional review of weapons sales to Israel twice as of December 2023, raising questions about oversight and accountability in arms transfers.

The conflict in Gaza began when Hamas, an Iran-backed militant group, launched attacks on Israel, resulting in casualties and hostage-taking, according to Israeli reports.

In response, Israel initiated air and ground offensives in Gaza, leading to significant casualties and displacements among the Palestinian population.

The reported arms delivery comes as the Biden administration seeks to address the humanitarian crisis and push for a ceasefire in Gaza. The U.S. has faced criticism for its role in supplying arms to Israel, with calls for greater scrutiny and accountability in arms sales to ensure they are not used in violation of human rights or international law.

Efforts to broker a ceasefire and address the underlying causes of the conflict continue, with international pressure mounting for a peaceful resolution.

The situation highlights the complex dynamics and challenges involved in addressing conflicts in the region, underscoring the need for diplomatic solutions and international cooperation.
