During an interview with CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins on Friday, Nikki Haley, a Republican presidential candidate, voiced her concerns about a potential future scenario where Donald Trump depletes the funds of the Republican National Committee (RNC) by seeking financial assistance for his legal fees.
Haley’s apprehensions were sparked after Trump’s endorsement of his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, for a leadership position within the committee, accompanied by a pledge that every resource of the RNC would be devoted to supporting him.
This declaration has triggered anxiety among many Republicans, including Haley, who worry that Trump might be maneuvering to benefit personally, particularly if he secures re-election.

“My primary concern is the prospect of the RNC morphing into his legal defense fund or his personal financial reservoir for court battles,” Haley remarked. “We’ve already witnessed him channeling $50 million from campaign contributions into his individual legal disputes.”
Highlighting the precarious financial state of the RNC, Haley emphasized that allocating resources towards Trump’s legal expenses would undermine the party’s broader objectives of securing victories in congressional and other elections. “If the RNC’s focus shifts to covering Trump’s legal costs, it detracts from our ability to win seats in the House, the Senate, or any other arena,” she stated.
Haley also pointed out Trump’s efforts to exert control over the RNC, citing his previous attempts to sideline her from the presidential race to ensure his own nomination. “All of this seems aimed at securing a platform to finance his legal battles. It’s a concern that should resonate with every Republican,” she cautioned.
