Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff‘s victory speech on Super Tuesday was interrupted by a group of protesters, who shouted him off the stage at the Avalon Theater in Hollywood.

Schiff, who had just learned he would advance to the U.S. Senate race, faced a challenging moment as demonstrators chanted “cease-fire now” and “let Gaza live,” causing a temporary halt to his speech.

Amid the growing noise from the protesters, Schiff attempted to address the situation, emphasizing the importance of democracy and the right to protest. “We are so lucky to live in a democracy where we all have the right to protest,” he stated, highlighting the value of maintaining such democratic freedoms.

As a vocal supporter of Israel, Schiff has recently backed the White House’s efforts to secure a Gaza cease-fire amidst a worsening humanitarian crisis in the region.

However, the protesters’ disruptions clearly shook Schiff, who briefly thanked his supporters and acknowledged the demonstrators before leaving the stage.

Meanwhile, Republican Steve Garvey, a former professional baseball player who entered the Senate race in October, also celebrated his advancement in California’s Senate primary.

Giving his victory speech earlier in the night from Palm Springs, Garvey prepared to face off against Schiff in the November general election, vying to fill the vacant seat by the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who passed away in September.
