The tragic case of 4-year-old Codi Bigsby, who was killed by his father and whose body has yet to be found, has reached a verdict in court. Cory Bigsby, the father, has been found guilty of second-degree murder and concealing a death.

This development follows a week-long trial that included emotional testimony from family members, including Codi’s now-7-year-old brother.

During the trial, Codi’s brother bravely recounted the harrowing sight of his lifeless sibling with a bruised, red face when he was just 4 years old. His testimony provided crucial insight into the timeline of events, confirming that Codi had been dead for months before being reported missing.

Hampton Commonwealth Attorney Anton Bell emphasized the innocence of the child and the horrific nature of his final moments at the hands of his father. Despite the weight of the evidence against him, Cory Bigsby chose not to testify in his own defense.

Investigators determined that Codi’s death occurred on June 18, 2021, but Cory Bigsby did not report him missing until January 31, 2022. This delay raised suspicion, leading to Bigsby’s subsequent arrest on charges of child neglect. He now faces trial for those charges as well.

The indictment on murder and concealing a dead body came almost two years after Codi’s killing, highlighting the prolonged legal process. Hampton Commonwealth Attorney Anton Bell plans to seek the maximum sentence of 45 years for Cory Bigsby’s heinous actions.

In response to the guilty verdict, Bigsby’s attorney expressed dissatisfaction with the handling of the case and hinted at a possible appeal. However, Cory Bigsby himself maintains his innocence, insisting that he was wrongfully convicted and denying responsibility for his son’s death.

The tragic case of Codi Bigsby has resonated beyond the courtroom, touching the hearts of people across the country. Police continue their search for Codi’s body, hoping to provide closure to his grieving family and bring a sense of justice to this heartbreaking ordeal.
