Is Jared Kushner Taking Over as the New Real Estate Mogul? Commits $500M to Serbian Project That Caught Ex-President’s Attention

Jared Kushner, son-in-law of Donald Trump, alongside his business partners, has finalized plans to undertake a real estate redevelopment project in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia.

Interestingly, this venture aligns with Trump’s previous interest in the same project during his presidency, as The New York Times reported on Sunday.

Kushner’s decision to pursue this endeavor coincides with reports suggesting his preference for a quieter lifestyle rather than joining a potential Trump administration in the future.

In a significant development, Kushner’s team recently inked a tentative agreement with the Serbian government. This agreement grants Kushner’s investment firm a 99-year lease at no cost.

Under this arrangement, the firm will have the authority to construct a luxury hotel, apartment complex, and museum on the grounds of the former Yugoslav Ministry of Defense headquarters in Belgrade. Notably, this site holds historical significance, having been bombed by NATO forces in 1999.

The timing and scope of this development are particularly significant, considering Trump expressed interest in the project as far back as 2013, prior to his presidency.

However, despite initial discussions, the project failed to materialize before the 2016 election. Subsequently, Trump refrained from engaging in new foreign deals during his office.

This latest move by Kushner and his team signifies a revival of Trump’s previous aspirations for the project, albeit through different channels.

By securing a prominent lease and development rights, Kushner’s firm aims to breathe new life into the site, potentially realizing Trump’s vision for a luxury hotel in the heart of Belgrade.
