Some fans at Wembley Stadium had different opinions about England’s new football shirt. The St George’s Cross on it was changed color, and some people didn’t like it.
One fan said the Football Association (FA) should throw away the new shirts because they changed the color of the St George’s Cross. But other fans didn’t mind the change. One young fan wearing the new shirt said it’s still the same England flag.
The company that makes the shirts, Nike, said they wanted to give the shirt a fun update before Euro 2024. But some people, including Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, didn’t like the change.
One fan, Judith Gibbons, thought changing the flag’s color was a bad idea. She said the FA should take back the shirts and burn them. But another fan, Charlotte Prince, didn’t understand why people were upset. She said it doesn’t affect your life, so why be mad about it?
Charlotte also mentioned that they changed the flag’s color at the 2012 Olympics, and nobody cared then. She thinks social media is making people upset about it.
A young fan named Sully, wearing the new shirt, said he didn’t care about the change because it’s still the same England flag. He thought the new blue and purple cross on the shirt looked good. Brazil won the game 1-0 with a goal from teenager Endrick.
