The TUV (Traditional Unionist Voice) is raising concerns about a post made by Dublin Airport just days before Princess Catherine revealed she was undergoing cancer treatment.
The post, still visible online, has been viewed by millions. It was shared on March 19th, before Princess Catherine announced her chemotherapy treatment. She had surgery in January, where doctors found cancer.
Princess Catherine had asked for privacy during her recovery, but there was widespread speculation and rumors online about her absence from public life.
The Dublin Airport post shared on X (formerly Twitter), showed a picture of the royal couple shopping, with Dublin Airport in the background. The caption read: “Great to see passengers looking so happy and relaxed this morning.”
Allister Kyle, TUV vice chairman and Causeway Coast and Glens council member, has written to Dublin Airport expressing concern about their post, which he sees as mocking the Princess’s health battle.
The News Letter contacted the Irish transport minister, Eamon Ryan, to ask if he thought the post was appropriate given the couple’s request for privacy and the speculation about the Princess’s health. They also asked if the post should be removed, considering its political and diplomatic implications.
The Department of Transport stated that Dublin Airport Authority (daa) is responsible for managing, operating, and developing Dublin Airport. Allister Kyle criticized Dublin Airport for keeping up the post, saying it was in poor taste given the Princess’s public struggle with cancer. He noted that Dublin Airport faced criticism on social media for the post and had disabled comments but left it visible.
According to Kyle, many people in Northern Ireland are upset by the post and see it as a sign of anti-British sentiment in the Republic of Ireland. He called for Dublin Airport to remove the post, explain its origin, take action against those responsible, and apologize to the royal couple.
