Karoline Leavitt, former President Donald Trump’s 2024 national press secretary, defended Trump’s stance on abortion during an appearance on Newsmax’s “Wake Up America.” Leavitt emphasized that Trump believes in states’ rights and supports returning the issue of abortion to the jurisdiction of individual states.
Leavitt stated that Trump’s position aligns with the majority of Americans, emphasizing that the recent Dobbs decision by the Supreme Court effectively returned the issue of abortion to the states.
She highlighted Trump’s support for exceptions in cases such as the life of the mother, rape, and incest, which she claimed are also supported by most Americans.
Leavitt criticized Democrats, accusing them of being radical on the issue of abortion. She claimed that Democrats support late-term abortions, infanticide, and taxpayer-funded abortions, positions that she suggested are out of step with the American public.
Leavitt emphasized Trump’s support for families and efforts to make it easier for them to have children, including through fertility treatments like in vitro fertilization (IVF).
Regarding the potential impact of abortion on the 2024 election, Leavitt indicated that while the Trump campaign will continue to address the issue and expose what they perceive as the radical positions of Democrats, she believes that other issues, such as immigration and inflation, will be more prominent in voters’ minds come Election Day.
