Representative Eric Burlison of Missouri, who recently returned from a trip to Israel, shared his perspective with Newsmax on Tuesday regarding President Joe Biden’s reported call for an immediate cease-fire in Israel’s conflict with Iranian-backed Hamas militants in Gaza.
Burlison advised Biden to refrain from making statements on the matter, suggesting that during times of crisis, allies should support each other rather than criticize. Drawing a parallel to the repercussions of the 9/11 attacks, Burlison noted that Israel did not publicly critique the United States’ handling of conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining solidarity between the United States and Israel, particularly as such remarks can embolden adversaries by implying a division between the two nations.
As a member of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, Burlison also addressed the Department of Justice’s refusal to release the audio recording of special counsel Robert Hur’s interview with President Biden during an investigation into Biden’s handling of classified documents.
While a transcript of the interview has been made available, Burlison suggested that the audio recording may present Biden in a less favorable light, potentially undermining his credibility.
Burlison speculated that hearing Biden’s words firsthand could reveal inconsistencies or moments of forgetfulness, which the administration may wish to avoid highlighting.
Burlison’s remarks underscored the delicate nature of international alliances and the ongoing scrutiny surrounding the handling of sensitive information at the highest levels of government.
