After a TikTok video surfaced featuring a student making racist comments about Beyoncé and her latest album, Indiana State University swiftly responded with a denouncement of racism, hate speech, and discrimination. University President Deborah Curtis emphasized that such behavior contradicts the institution’s values and mission.

In response to the incident, students organized a protest demanding accountability from the administration. They called for disciplinary action against the student, a public condemnation of the video, the implementation of a zero-tolerance policy toward hate speech, and revisions to the university’s Code of Conduct.

The student’s video targeted Beyoncé’s album “Cowboy Carter,” drawing on racist stereotypes to discredit her country music influences. The remarks sparked outrage online and among the university community, particularly among marginalized groups.

President Curtis expressed solidarity with affected students and affirmed the university’s commitment to their well-being and safety. However, she did not disclose the student’s identity, citing privacy laws and due process rights.
