The White House made clear on Monday that it would not endorse a standalone bill solely offering assistance to Israel following Iran’s recent attack. Instead, it urged the House to pass a comprehensive national security supplemental bill encompassing aid for Ukraine, Israel, and other allies.

National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby informed reporters of the administration’s stance, stating opposition to a bill focused on Israel. This comes with the consequences of Saturday’s drone and missile attack on Israel by Iran, prompting calls for swift action to support the country.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) announced plans for a House vote on Israel aid in the upcoming days, emphasizing the importance of standing with Israel despite the recent attack.

However, previous attempts to pass standalone bills for Israeli aid failed to gain adequate support. The White House has been advocating for the passage of a $95 billion national security supplemental bill, which received bipartisan approval in the Senate.

This comprehensive bill includes assistance for Ukraine, Israel, and Indo-Pacific allies, reflecting the urgency of current global challenges. Kirby underscored the pressing nature of the situation, particularly as Ukraine continues to confront Russian aggression and Israel faces threats from Iran.

Emphasizing the need for swift action, Kirby urged lawmakers to pass the bipartisan bill to ensure timely aid reaches both the Israeli Defense Forces and Ukrainian soldiers.
