Rep. Derrick Van Orden, a Republican from Wisconsin, issued a cautionary note against the potential ousting of House Speaker Mike Johnson, emphasizing the risks of such a move and its potential implications.

Speaking with Newsmax on Wednesday, Van Orden expressed concerns about the current dynamics within the Republican Conference in the House of Representatives.

During an interview on “American Agenda,” Van Orden highlighted his apprehension about certain members of the Republican Conference inadvertently working towards elevating Democrat Hakeem Jeffries to the position of Speaker of the House.

He underscored the importance of maintaining stability in leadership and cautioned against actions that could disrupt legislative processes.

Drawing parallels to past instances of leadership changes, Van Orden referenced the repercussions seen after the removal of Kevin McCarthy from the speakership, indicating a period of congressional stagnation.

Against the backdrop of pressing global challenges, including the crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border, escalating tensions in Israel, and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Van Orden stressed the necessity of effective leadership to address these urgent issues.

Highlighting the severity of the situations revealing globally, Van Orden emphasized the need for cohesive leadership to pass these complex challenges. He warned against the timing of vacating the speakership, particularly despite the current global turmoil, describing it as ill-advised.

Reports indicated that Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky supported a resolution to remove Speaker Johnson from his position, signaling growing dissent within the Republican ranks.

Van Orden criticized this move, cautioning against internal strife within the party and emphasizing the need for unity in addressing critical issues on both the national and global fronts.
