During an appearance on Newsmax on Thursday, Lara Trump, the co-chair of the Republican National Committee, criticized the choice of venue for her father-in-law, former President Donald Trump’s trial, alleging bias and framing the alleged crime as an attempt to sideline him from the campaign trail.
Trump expressed her concerns regarding the trial’s location, suggesting that moving it to another part of the country might result in a fairer trial or possibly prevent the case from gaining traction altogether.
She portrayed the allegations against her father-in-law as stemming from a mere accounting error, rather than a deliberate act of wrongdoing.
The trial, which marks the first criminal trial against a former U.S. president, centers on a $130,000 payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels in 2016. Prosecutors from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office accuse Trump of mischaracterizing reimbursements to his lawyer to conceal the payment.
In Trump’s view, the trial is not about justice but rather about keeping Donald Trump off the campaign trail. She suggested that prosecutors aim to dissuade voters from supporting him, but she asserted that the American people are not swayed by such tactics.
Trump highlighted the substantial financial support her father-in-law continues to receive from his supporters, indicating widespread backing for his candidacy.
Despite the legal challenges facing Donald Trump, Lara Trump’s comments underscore the continued loyalty and support he enjoys among his base, as evidenced by the outstanding campaign contributions he continues to receive.
