Kristi Noem’s revelation about euthanizing her own dog has sparked widespread condemnation from both sides of the political aisle. Alyssa Farah Griffin, Meghan McCain, Rick Wilson, Laura Loomer, and others expressed shock and disgust at Noem’s actions, with some suggesting that it could irreparably damage her political career.
Former Trump administration officials, including Griffin and McCain, criticized Noem’s decision to euthanize her dog, with Griffin expressing horror at the excerpt from Noem’s book and McCain asserting that it would be a stain on her political record.
Meanwhile, Lincoln Project cofounder Rick Wilson and Trump ally Laura Loomer also condemned Noem’s actions, with Wilson highlighting the cruelty of shooting a puppy and Loomer suggesting that it would disqualify her from being vice president.
However, not everyone on the right shared the same sentiment. Conservative commentator Michael Knowles expressed support for Noem, stating that the revelation made him like and respect her more. Even former President Donald Trump wrote a positive review for Noem’s book on Amazon.
In response to the backlash, Noem defended her decision, likening it to tough decisions that happen on a farm. However, her attempt to justify her actions did not appease her critics, with many continuing to condemn her for euthanizing her dog.
The Biden campaign indirectly referenced Noem’s controversy by sharing a photo of President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris with their dogs, seemingly contrasting their compassionate approach to pets with Noem’s actions.
