Minority leader of the U.S. Senate, Mitch McConnell, made an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press” with host Kristen Welker, discussing various topics including the Biden administration, aid to Ukraine, and Donald Trump.
McConnell criticized the Biden administration for not paying enough attention to Ukraine’s needs, particularly after his recent meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
He condemned the administration’s withdrawal from Afghanistan as a mistake and argued that defense funding has not kept pace with inflation.

Highlighting the challenges posed by China, Russia, Iran, and terrorism, McConnell emphasized the need for a serious approach to national security, likening the current situation to a more complex set of problems than those faced during World War II.
When questioned about U.S. aid to Ukraine and whether it was arriving too late to be effective, McConnell expressed solidarity with Ukraine but stressed that the United States should not impose settlements on foreign conflicts, citing a similar stance regarding Israel’s internal affairs.

Regarding his support for former President Trump, McConnell reiterated his commitment to backing the Republican nominee despite his previous criticism of Trump’s role in provoking the events of January 6th. He stated that he focuses on ensuring that his successor becomes a majority leader rather than a minority one.
