Conor McGregor Allegedly Delays Assault Case with ‘Flimsy Excuse

High Court Accuses Conor McGregor of 'Playing Games' with Assault Claim

Conor McGregor, the notorious mixed martial arts star, is embroiled in a legal battle with a young woman who alleges he assaulted her. The woman, known to McGregor, is seeking damages and has brought a case against him in the High Court.

However, McGregor’s lawyers are attempting to delay the hearing, initially set for June, until November, citing a conflicting boxing match in the US. The woman’s legal team has accused McGregor of “playing ducks and drakes” with the court, seeking to adjourn the case despite already being granted a previous adjournment.

The High Court heard the matter briefly, with McGregor’s lawyer, Remy Farrell SC, seeking pretrial motions to obtain materials from parties including An Garda Síochána to support his client’s denials.

The judge, Mr Justice Alexander Owens, agreed to hear these applications on May 30. However, the woman’s lawyer, John Gordon SC, expressed concern about the delay, stating that McGregor was attempting to put off the hearing with an “excuse” about a boxing match.

Gordon urged the court to rule that the case proceed as scheduled in late June, but the judge declined, opting to wait until the pretrial motions are heard before making a decision.

McGregor’s legal team has been accused of seeking to delay the case, despite the woman’s desire to have the matter heard as soon as possible. The judge noted that McGregor’s side would likely seek an adjournment of the June hearing date when the case is next mentioned.

The woman’s legal team has expressed frustration with the delay, stating that McGregor’s side should have sought discovery of materials “years and years ago.” The case is one of two initiated against McGregor over events alleged to have taken place in 2018, with both allegations fully denied by the sportsman.
