Tamara Potocka, a 21-year-old swimmer from Slovakia, collapsed after her qualifying heat in the women’s 200-meter individual medley at the Paris Olympics on Friday morning. Following the race, she was immediately attended to by medical personnel who provided first aid and carried her off on a stretcher while she wore an oxygen mask.
The incident occurred right after Potocka exited the pool, and she was quickly surrounded by about six medical attendants. They responded within a minute, providing the necessary assistance before transporting her for further medical care. It was confirmed that she was conscious during this time, though it remains uncertain if CPR was administered.
Potocka’s performance in the heat resulted in a seventh-place finish with a time of 2 minutes, 14.20 seconds. This timing was insufficient for her to qualify for the semifinals, thus eliminating her from further competition in the event.
The swift response by the medical team ensured that Potocka received prompt attention after her collapse. While her condition appeared stable as she was conscious, the specifics of her medical treatment and subsequent recovery remain to be detailed.
