On Sunday, former Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross expressed doubts about President Biden’s capacity to complete his term. In an interview on “The Cats Roundtable” with host John Catsimatidis, Ross questioned, “If he’s not fit to run, how can he be fit to remain in office?”
Ross’s comments followed Biden’s recent announcement that he would step aside from the 2024 presidential race, endorsing Vice President Harris as his successor. Biden’s decision came after intense pressure from Democrats due to concerns over his age, mental acuity, and performance in a challenging debate.

Since Biden’s announcement, Harris has secured endorsements, officially became the presumptive Democratic nominee, and raised substantial campaign funds. When asked by Catsimatidis about the current decision-making authority in the Oval Office, Ross suggested, “It must be the staff who are in control.”
Ross pointed to Biden’s frequent remarks about staff restrictions on his statements as evidence. “You recall the press conferences where Biden would say, ‘My staff won’t let me discuss this,’ or ‘My staff prefers I avoid this topic,’” he noted. “It’s clear that staff have had serious control over various matters, even before Biden’s decision not to run.”
In response to health concerns, the White House and Biden have defended his fitness. Last month, the administration released a letter from Biden’s physician addressing why a neurologist specializing in Parkinson’s disease visited the White House. Dr. Kevin O’Connor explained that Dr. Kevin Cannard’s presence was due to his extensive expertise and flexibility, not solely his specialization in movement disorders.
