Harris Nearly Doubles Biden’s Margin Over Trump in New York, Poll Reveals

US Vice President/Presidential Aspirant, Kamala Harris

Vice President Harris has expanded President Biden’s previous lead over former President Trump in New York, as revealed by a recent poll. According to the Siena College survey, Harris now holds a 14-point advantage over Trump, with 53 percent of New York voters backing her, compared to Trump’s 39 percent. This marks an increase from Biden’s earlier 8-point lead over Trump in a poll conducted in late June.

In a scenario involving multiple candidates, Harris still maintains a lead, securing 49 percent of the vote, while Trump holds 39 percent, and independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. garners 7 percent.

The poll also highlights that Harris enjoys the support of 86 percent of New York Democrats, an obvious rise from the 75 percent who supported Biden in June. Additionally, she has strong backing among Black voters, with 81 percent supporting her compared to Trump’s 11 percent.

Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg observed that the shift at the top of the Democratic ticket has had a noticeable impact on the race, though it is not drastic. Since Harris took over the ticket, the gender gap has widened, with her leading Trump by 34 points among women in New York, compared to Biden’s 18-point lead in June.

Interestingly, Harris’s gains were not driven by younger voters. Instead, her largest increase came from voters aged 35-54, who now favor her 54-40%, reversing their previous support for Trump over Biden in June. The poll, conducted between July 28 and August 1, surveyed 1,199 likely voters in New York and has a margin of error of ±4 percentage points.
