On Tuesday, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) ridiculed former President Trump’s suggestion that President Biden might attempt to reclaim the Democratic nomination.
Trump’s Truth Social post speculated that Biden, whom Trump disparaged as the “WORST President” and claimed had his presidency “STOLEN” by various Democratic figures, could disrupt the Democratic National Convention to retake the nomination. Trump implied that Biden might challenge him to another debate, suggesting Biden regrets his decision to cede the presidency.
Schiff and Newsom dismiss Trump’s suggestion of Biden re-entering the 2024 race as fear-driven
Responding to Trump’s allegations, Schiff, who is running for a U.S. Senate seat in California, expressed on X, “It’s okay to be scared.”
Vice President Harris has become the presumptive Democratic candidate for the 2024 presidential election, following Biden’s withdrawal from the race. This move came after increasing calls from within the party, including from Schiff, who questioned Biden’s age, mental fitness, and ability to mount a successful campaign.
Newsom added his reaction on X, asserting, “Oh, he’s scared.”
Two Republican anti-Trump organizations, Republican Voters Against Trump and The Lincoln Project, also condemned Trump’s remarks. They criticized his claims as irrational and pointed out that suggesting Biden might re-enter the race and challenge him was “pretty unhinged.”
Ian Krager, spokesperson for former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), dismissed Trump’s post as “just the usual projection of his own insanity.” The Hill has contacted the Trump campaign, Sen. Chuck Schumer’s (D-N.Y.) office, former President Obama, former first lady Michelle Obama, and the Harris campaign for further comments.
