Harris reflected on the emotions of that night, recalling how she navigated her own bittersweet moment as she prepared for her acceptance speech, having just won her Senate seat representing California. “It was election night for me as well,” Harris wrote. “When I took the stage, I tore up my notes and simply declared, ‘We will fight.’”

After serving four years in the Senate, Harris was selected as Joe Biden’s running mate in 2020, and together they defeated Trump in the presidential election. Following Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 race and his endorsement of Harris as his successor, she has taken a leading position in the presidential race. According to recent polls from The Hill/Decision Desk HQ, Harris is currently ahead of Trump by 1.8 points, with 49 percent support compared to Trump’s 47.2 percent.
