This week’s Sunday shows are likely to center around Vice President Harris’s recent surge in polling, as she positions herself as the Democratic nominee in key battleground states against former President Trump.
Harris has experienced a swift ascent since President Biden withdrew from the 2024 race, ascending to the top of the Democratic ticket and choosing Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate. With the Democratic National Convention (DNC) approaching in Chicago next week, Harris will enter with considerable momentum, a sharp contrast to the frustration many Democrats felt after Biden’s challenging debate performance in June.
Polling from The New York Times/Siena College reveals Harris leading Trump by 4 points in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania; 5 points in Arizona; and 2 points in North Carolina. Harris trails by just 1 point in Nevada and 4 points in Georgia.
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, whose state will host the upcoming convention, is scheduled to appear on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday. Pritzker has described the DNC as “phenomenal” and noted that preparations at the United Center are coming along well.
Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.), an early advocate for Biden’s exit from the 2024 race, will join “The Hill Sunday” on NewsNation. Moulton defended Walz’s military service after Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance (Ohio) criticized it. Vance will appear on “Fox News Sunday.”
Moulton, a Marine Corps veteran, criticized Vance and Trump for undermining military service, highlighting that many servicemembers don’t see combat. Moulton expressed pride in Walz’s service and his own experience serving alongside him.
Senators Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) and Andy Beshear (D-Ky.), who were also considered as potential vice presidential picks for Harris, will feature on CBS’s “Face the Nation.” Kelly, a retired Navy captain, echoed criticism of Vance’s attacks on Walz, emphasizing respect for military service.
