Matt Gaetz (R) is facing a primary challenge from an opponent backed by his adversary, former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R).
Meanwhile, Democrats in Florida’s 13th Congressional District are contending for the chance to oppose Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R) in the upcoming general election. On the other side of the country, Alaska will hold its nonpartisan primary for its at-large congressional district, currently represented by Rep. Mary Peltola (D). This election will reduce the number of candidates to just four.

Despite this, Mucarsel-Powell, who amassed nearly $5 million in the second quarter, is widely viewed as the leading candidate, especially with support from prominent Democrats like Rep. James Clyburn (S.C.).
Gaetz Primary:
In Florida’s 1st Congressional District, the rivalry between McCarthy and his Republican counterparts continues as Gaetz faces a primary challenge from Aaron Dimmock, a former naval officer supported by McCarthy. Despite aggressive campaigning from both sides, Gaetz appears to have a substantial lead.
Democratic Primary to Challenge Luna:
Five Democratic candidates are competing for the opportunity to challenge Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) in the general election, with Whitney Fox emerging as the likely nominee due to endorsements from various organizations and key Florida Democrats. However, the general election remains an uphill battle for any Democratic candidate.
Peltola’s Seat in Alaska:
In Alaska’s nonpartisan primary for the at-large House seat, twelve candidates, including two Democrats and four Republicans, are vying for a spot. Under the state’s ranked-choice voting system, the top four candidates will proceed to the general election, regardless of party affiliation. Incumbent Rep. Mary Peltola (D) is participating in this election, having successfully navigated a similar process during a special election in 2022.
