On Wednesday, Senator John Hickenlooper (D-Colo.) revealed his intention to serve just one more term if reelected. “I’m setting a limit of two terms for myself,” Hickenlooper told Andrew Desiderio of Punchbowl News. “This is my commitment, a matter of personal principle.”
Hickenlooper, who previously served as governor and mayor of Denver, earned his Senate seat by defeating former Senator Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) in 2020. He believes that bringing experiences from local and state governance into the Senate is crucial.
Although he briefly ran for president in 2020, Hickenlooper has since thrown his support behind Vice President Kamala Harris. Following President Biden’s withdrawal from the race in late July, Hickenlooper endorsed Harris, highlighting her role in strengthening the Democratic Party and her potential to unify the nation.
“Vice President Harris is already bringing the Democratic Party together, and she will unite the country as well,” Hickenlooper wrote on X. “She has been an essential partner to President Biden over these remarkable four years, and we are committed to doing everything possible to help her win.”
