Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign achieved a remarkable fundraising milestone, securing nearly $500 million within her first month as a candidate. This impressive sum came from over 2 million donors, reflecting grassroots support.
As of Wednesday, campaign officials confirmed that Harris had amassed close to this amount, following her entry into the presidential race on July 21. This surge in contributions came after President Biden’s withdrawal from the race late last month. According to Reuters, the Harris campaign’s fundraising total was reported to be near $500 million since her candidacy began.
Bloomberg News noted that in her initial 11 days as the leading Democratic candidate, Harris received contributions from more than 2.4 million donors. This figure surpasses the total number of donors Biden had throughout his entire campaign by approximately 200,000.
The Harris campaign has consistently highlighted its strong fundraising performance since she took on the role of the Democratic nominee challenging former President Trump. The campaign garnered $81 million within the first 24 hours of her candidacy and accumulated $200 million in the week following Biden’s departure. Additionally, after announcing Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate, the campaign secured another $36 million in just one day.
As the campaign intensifies, financial resources will be crucial for both parties. In July, the Harris campaign raised $310 million and ended the month with $377 million in cash on hand. However, the Trump campaign reported raising $139 million and maintaining $327 million in reserve.
This substantial financial backing underscores the competitive nature of the upcoming presidential race and highlights the critical role of campaign funding in shaping the electoral landscape.
