Tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch, sometimes dubbed “Britain’s Bill Gates,” was found dead today after his family’s superyacht, the Bayesian, sank off the coast of Sicily on Monday. Lynch was vacationing with his family and friends when a severe storm caused the yacht to capsize and sink rapidly. Out of the 22 people aboard, seven, including Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah, lost their lives in the tragedy.
This disaster follows a significant legal victory for Lynch, who had recently been acquitted of fraud charges related to HP’s $11 billion acquisition of his startup, Autonomy, in 2011. HP had alleged that Lynch and his team inflated Autonomy’s value through financial manipulation, which led to a substantial write-down just a year after the merger.
