Former FBI Director James Comey has expressed his support for Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, in the 2024 presidential race. In a statement posted on X, Comey described Harris as a beacon of hope, stating, “Kamala Harris gives me the feeling that it’s finally morning in America.
Anyone who values the rule of law and America’s critical role globally should cast their vote for Harris and Walz. I certainly will.” Comey had previously endorsed Joe Biden during the 2020 Democratic primary, a gesture met with skepticism by Biden’s campaign.
At the time, Andrew Bates, then Biden’s director of rapid response, quipped, “Yes, customer service? I received a package I didn’t order. How can I return it at no cost?” Since his dismissal by former President Trump in 2017, Comey has been a vocal critic of Trump.
He has warned that if Trump returns to the White House, he will target the FBI and the Department of Justice. In May, Comey cautioned that Trump would aim to undermine these institutions, expressing concern that Trump’s next attempt to corrupt them would be more aggressive. He predicted that Trump would fill these positions with less qualified individuals who would act on his behalf, which Comey sees as a serious threat to American democracy.
