Ohio Sen. JD Vance, the GOP’s vice-presidential candidate, stated that Donald Trump would likely reject a federal abortion ban if he were to reclaim the presidency in the upcoming election.
Vance confirmed during an interview with NBC News’s Kristen Welker, posted on the “Meet the Press” account, that Trump has made it clear he wouldn’t support such legislation. “I believe he would,” Vance remarked, referencing Trump’s past statements.

Trump had previously mentioned in April that he wouldn’t endorse a national abortion ban, but many Democrats remain skeptical. Vice President Harris, for instance, voiced concerns in a recent post on X, stating that if Trump were to return to the White House, he would undoubtedly sign such a ban.
In April, Trump also referred to the overturning of Roe v. Wade as a huge milestone, highlighting that the issue had been returned to the states, allowing them to decide according to the will of the people.
During his appearance on “Meet the Press,” Vance emphasized the importance of understanding Trump’s actual stance on abortion, contrasting it with the Democrats’ position, including Harris’s. He argued that Trump aims to bring an end to the culture war surrounding the issue.
As this conversation comes to play, Democrats continue to link Trump to Project 2025, a comprehensive conservative plan for governing if Republicans regain control of the White House.
This document outlines various goals, including the revocation of the FDA’s approval of the abortion pill mifepristone. Trump, however, has distanced himself from Project 2025, stating that he is unfamiliar with it, despite reports indicating that several former Trump officials are involved.
