Billy Baldwin has declared the end of his long-standing friendship with Robert Kennedy Jr. due to Kennedy’s recent endorsement of former President Trump, accusing him of “selling his political soul.”
On Sunday, Baldwin took to X to express his disappointment, reflecting on how Kennedy’s speeches had once inspired him. He mentioned that they had been friends for decades, and he admired Kennedy’s political views.
Baldwin claimed that Kennedy had pursued presidential ambitions throughout his adult life. He suggested that Kennedy entered the 2024 presidential race out of concern that the chance to fulfill his aspirations was slipping away.
Last week, Kennedy, 70, shifted his independent presidential campaign by suspending it in swing states and offering his support to Trump. However, he intends to remain on the ballot in strongly red or blue states.
The “Backdraft” actor, known as Alec Baldwin’s younger brother, criticized Kennedy for aligning with Trump. Baldwin saw this as a betrayal not only of Kennedy’s family’s legacy but also of his own long-held political principles and personal stance on Trump, which had been well-documented over the years.
Kennedy’s backing of Trump, Baldwin insisted, reveals his “political cowardice.”
While a Kennedy spokesperson has yet to comment, Baldwin referenced a statement from five of Kennedy’s siblings, who supported Vice President Harris and condemned Kennedy’s Trump endorsement as a betrayal of their family values. Baldwin echoed this sentiment, stating that he, too, is severing ties with Kennedy.
