Dispute Arises as Trump Campaign Rejects Foo Fighters’ Unauthorized Song Use Accusation

Rock band 'Foo Fighters' and Presidential Candidate Donald Trump

Late Sunday, a representative for the Foo Fighters clarified to The Hill that the band had not authorized the use of their song at a Trump campaign rally held in Arizona on Friday. The spokesperson also noted that any royalties generated from the song would be donated to Vice President Harris’s campaign.

“The Foo Fighters were not approached for permission, and if they had been, it would not have been granted,” the representative stated. The Trump campaign maintained that they had obtained the rights to use the song.

“We possess a license to play the song,” asserted Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung in an email to The Hill. Cheung further disputed the band’s claim on the social platform X. “It’s Times Like These that facts matter, don’t be a Pretender. @foofighters,” he posted, referencing two other songs by the band.

At the rally in Glendale on Friday, Trump played “My Hero” as he introduced former presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who had announced earlier in the day that he was suspending his campaign and endorsing Trump.

The band’s representative reiterated the lack of permission early Monday, in response to the Trump campaign’s statement. “The Foo Fighters were not asked for permission, and once more, even if they had been, it would not have been granted,” the spokesperson reaffirmed.
