Robin Roberts and Amber Laign are celebrating a huge milestone in their relationship! On September 8, the couple marked their first wedding anniversary with a romantic dinner date. The Good Morning America co-anchor, 63, shared a glimpse of their intimate outdoor setup via Instagram, featuring a table adorned with candles and flowers in a garden patio area.
In a voiceover, Roberts mentioned that a friend orchestrated the special dinner. “Since we never actually got to eat at our wedding, this was a lovely gift from a longtime friend, Pam Guglielmino, and the chef from our wedding night,” she said. “Wow!”
The video showcased a menu that read, “Yes to dinner, always,” alongside the couple’s first names. They enjoyed shrimp cocktail and autumn salad as starters, followed by pan-seared salmon with lemon dill sauce, wild rice, and haricot verts for the main course. For dessert, they had white chocolate strawberry bread pudding and slices of wedding cake, saved for the occasion.
In the caption, Roberts expressed her gratitude: “What a special time at home celebrating our 1 year wedding anniversary. Thanks to dear friend @pgoog and Chef Katrina from @farmingtongardensct for a memorable night! Forgive me if I’m a little bleary-eyed tomorrow on @goodmorningamerica. Totally worth the late night.”
A second Instagram post featured an anniversary card with the playful message “Rock Paper Scissors” and a candle that read, “One year down forever to go,” which Roberts reiterated in the caption. Roberts also shared wedding highlights on Instagram Stories, including a fun clip of her nephew Jeremiah having an “epic” dance-off with GMA weekend co-anchor Whit Johnson.
Just before their anniversary, the couple celebrated Laign’s 50th birthday. Roberts posted a festive photo of Laign wearing a pink birthday sash and holding a crown-shaped wand, wishing her a “Happy 50th Birthday!!” and praising her for bringing joy and kindness into her life.
In July, Roberts discussed on The Jamie Kern Lima Show how Laign helped her unlearn toxic relationship patterns. She revealed her initial plan to end the relationship after a year due to a lack of drama, which she previously mistook for a lack of love.
Roberts recalled preparing to end the relationship when Laign confidently told her, “Robin, I know the relationship you had before. If that is what you want, knock yourself out.” This reaction surprised Roberts and made her reconsider the breakup, as she realized she needed to reassess her understanding of love and relationships.
“I’m so grateful to Amber for helping me rethink what I once knew about relationships,” Roberts said, acknowledging that sometimes it’s necessary to unlearn and reevaluate one’s notions of love.
