Although the latest season of Bridgerton won’t be considered for Emmy nominations until 2025, Coughlan took on the role of presenter at this year’s ceremony.
At the premiere of Bridgerton in London earlier in April, Coughlan made a bold statement with a 22-karat gold corset that mirrored her character Penelope Featherington’s evolving love story with Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton).
The corset featured a unique anatomical heart motif, symbolizing her character’s romantic journey. This appearance, among other standout looks, helped keep Coughlan in the spotlight throughout the summer.
The Derry Girls actress had a remarkable year, starring in one of the summer’s standout series, receiving praise for her role in the critically acclaimed British comedy Big Mood, and featuring in a campaign for Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS.
Coughlan’s influence extended beyond her onscreen appearances. In an interview with Stylist in May, she spoke about her deliberate choice to include specific lines and scenes in the season, including a nude scene.
“I was very intentional about a scene where I’m fully naked on camera. It was my decision and felt like a powerful statement against the discussions about my body; it was incredibly empowering,” she explained. “I felt stunning in that moment and thought: ‘When I look back at this in my 80s, I want to remember just how stunning I looked!’ ” She expressed her pride in the season’s nude scenes, highlighting that her involvement was entirely by her own choice and initiative.
