Lucinda Light recently opened up about her time on Married At First Sight, expressing that the experience left her feeling quite surprised and overwhelmed. In an interview with Stellar, the 43-year-old revealed that joining the show was a spur-of-the-moment decision during a rough patch in her life.
She admitted that the choice to participate was made impulsively after seeing an ad for the show while grappling with personal and professional challenges in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. “It seemed like a sign to shake things up. My life was very routine, and my dating life was quite lackluster,” Lucinda explained.
What’s more, Lucinda confessed she had never actually watched MAFS before agreeing to take part. “I hadn’t really been following television or the show’s world for a while,” she said.
Even though she was unfamiliar with the show’s dynamics, Lucinda decided to go ahead and soon realized it was an intense learning experience. “The show turned out to be an incredibly deep look at human behavior,” she quipped.
She also noted that the program unexpectedly became a valuable learning tool for its viewers, with people of all ages, including teenagers, reaching out to share how much they gained from it.
“It’s a great show for understanding relationships—both what to do and what to avoid,” she added. Lucinda has also shared how her life has shifted since leaving the show. Living in a quiet coastal town along the Great Ocean Road, she finds it surreal to be recognized when she travels to larger cities.
“The opportunities that have arisen since then have far exceeded my expectations,” she told Daily Mail Australia. “I keep my life simple—cooking, enjoying nature, and resting. It’s still odd to be recognized in places like Melbourne.” She appreciates the warm interactions with fans. “It’s heartwarming when someone greets me as if they’ve known me forever. It’s really special.”
Lucinda recounted a humorous moment with a tradesperson who was thrilled to meet her. “The concreter who came to work on my house was so excited to see me—it was quite amusing.” Reflecting on her experience, Lucinda shared the most important lesson she learned. “The journey was very humbling and led to substantial personal growth. One important lesson was to avoid being overly reactive.”
Lucinda expressed a deep sense of appreciation for the experience. “I truly enjoyed every moment! It was a whirlwind of emotions—challenging, funny, enlightening, and full of ups and downs. Working with the cast and crew was fantastic, and each day brought something new. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that offered rich rewards for the effort invested.”
