Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling are among Hollywood’s most talked-about celebrities. Despite their fame, the couple, who share daughters Esmeralda and Amada, maintain a private relationship, leaving much about their personal lives under wraps. It is widely believed that they started dating in 2011 after working together on the crime drama The Place Beyond The Pines.
Many assumed their relationship blossomed on set. However, during a recent interview while promoting her new children’s book Desi, Mami, and the Never-Ending Worries, Mendes corrected this assumption. A fan asked about their first encounter, and she revealed it had happened long before their collaboration on the movie.
“We actually met on a plane a long time ago,” Mendes shared, confirming that they had known each other prior to filming The Place Beyond The Pines. Discussing their time on set, Mendes had previously noted, “We had known each other for a while already, so it was exciting to finally work together.”
Gosling has also reflected on the early stages of their relationship, mentioning how filming as an onscreen family with Mendes made him want to build a real life with her. “There were moments during The Place Beyond the Pines where we were acting like a family, and I realized I didn’t want it to be pretend anymore,” he recalled. “I knew I’d be lucky to have that life with her.”
In a more recent interview, Mendes provided some insight into their home life, especially around cooking. While she praised Gosling for being “an amazing cook,” she admitted that she struggles in the kitchen.
Mendes humorously shared, “My kids don’t really like the eggs I make, and it kind of hurts my feelings,” adding that she often asks Ryan, “How can I mess up eggs?” She laughed about his response, “He says, ‘Oh, no, no, that’s where you’re wrong. It’s not as easy as you think.’ Apparently, there’s a knack to it that I just don’t have.”
