Attending a special screening of Megalopolis, Robert De Niro and Tiffany Chen showcased their support for a friend’s film. On September 23, the couple, who share a one-year-old daughter named Gia, made a charming appearance at the New York City premiere, smiling and holding hands as they walked the red carpet.
Although De Niro does not have a role in Megalopolis, his long-standing friendship with director Francis Ford Coppola, 85, began with their collaboration on The Godfather Part II in 1974, where De Niro portrayed a younger version of Marlon Brando’s iconic character.
Before the screening of Coppola’s latest project, De Niro, Coppola, and Spike Lee participated in a brief question-and-answer session. The film features an impressive ensemble cast that includes Adam Driver, Aubrey Plaza, Giancarlo Esposito, Laurence Fishburne, Jon Voight, Grace VanderWaal, Shia LaBeouf, and Dustin Hoffman.
The premiere marked a special date night for De Niro and Chen, occurring just over a month after De Niro celebrated his 81st birthday on August 17. The acclaimed actor first met Chen in 2015 during the filming of The Intern, but their romantic relationship did not become public until August 2021 when they were spotted vacationing together in France.
The couple welcomed their daughter, Gia Virginia Chen De Niro, on April 6, 2023. De Niro is also a father to six older children. He has a daughter, Drena, 56, and a son, Raphael, 47, with his first wife, Diahnne Abbott. In 1995, he had twin sons, Julian and Aaron, 28, with his former girlfriend, model Toukie Smith. Additionally, he shares son Elliot, 26, and daughter Helen Grace, 12, with ex-wife Grace Hightower.
Most recently, De Niro appeared in this year’s film Ezra, directed by Tony Goldwyn, and he was also featured in the Argentine streaming series Nada. Coppola’s Megalopolis had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May and is set to hit theaters on September 27.
