Trouble with the law has found its way to yet another member of the Duggar family. Jason Duggar, the younger brother of controversial reality star Josh Duggar, faces allegations of running an unlicensed construction business in Arkansas, as revealed in a shocking lawsuit for fraud and breach of contract previously reported by In Touch.
The 24-year-old self-identified contractor is being sued by a homeowner who claims Jason failed to perform essential repairs on a $350,000 three-bedroom house purchased in September 2023.
Mark L. Thompson asserts that Duggar committed fraud by misrepresenting himself as a licensed contractor capable of completing numerous repairs on a newly built home in Bella Vista, Arkansas.
The lawsuit comes from homeowner Mark L. Thompson, who claims Jason failed to complete essential repairs on a $350,000 house he purchased in September 2023
According to legal documents, Jason allegedly “deceived the Plaintiff” by not revealing his lack of a license and by not completing the repairs outlined in the purchase agreement. Following months of delays, court filings indicate that Jason attempted to escape responsibility by texting, “Mark, I have a question for you.
Instead of coming back several times and you getting upset with me and me getting upset with you, what if I cut you a final check for however much you think it’s gonna cost to get these things? [Then] you sign a contract saying we are no longer responsible for any additional fixes on the home inspection repair list.”
Andrew Myers, Thompson’s attorney, tells In Touch that he is puzzled by Jason and his co-defendant, Madison Holding, LLC, trying to avoid completing repairs that include issues with the roof, bathroom grout work, cracked drywall, and nearly two dozen other touch-ups. “We’ve been trying to get this resolved for almost a year now, and it’s been like pulling teeth,” Myers stated. “Usually, it’s pretty easy to fix all of this.”
While Josh, Jason’s 36-year-old brother, is currently serving a 12-year federal sentence for downloading child pornography, Jason hung up when contacted by In Touch for comments.
Kristyn Hutson, a representative from the Arkansas Contractors Licensing Board, noted that the license for the Duggar’s Build Masters Construction company expired in September 2023 due to a failure to submit required financial records.
“They didn’t follow through, and I don’t know why,” Hutson explained to In Touch. “It’s illegal to build a house without a license if you’re not going to live in it. If they are caught working without a license, they could face fines of at least $400 a day.”
Despite this legal turmoil, the lawsuit comes on the heels of more uplifting news for Jason. On August 24, he proposed to Maddie Grace, just three months after publicly announcing their courtship.
Maddie shared the joyful news, writing, “On 8/24, Jase asked me to marry him, and I could not be more excited!! Thank you @kaylajohnsonphoto_ for capturing this special moment so beautifully.”
In the accompanying photos, Jason is seen on one knee at the beach, surrounded by a heart-shaped arrangement of red roses with “Will you marry me?” displayed at the center. Jason later commented on the post, simply stating, “She said yes!”
