Frank Fritz, known for his role on American Pickers, has passed away two years after experiencing a stroke. The news was confirmed by Fritz’s former co-host and friend, Mike Wolfe, via an Instagram post on Tuesday, Oct. 1, revealing that Fritz died on Sept. 30.
Wolfe began his heartfelt tribute by saying, “It’s with a broken heart that I share with all of you that Frank passed away last night.” He reflected on their long friendship, stating, “I’ve known Frank for more than half my life, and what you’ve seen on TV has always been what I have seen, a dreamer who was just as sensitive as he was funny.”
Wolfe emphasized that Fritz was the same genuine person off-camera as he was on, capable of touching the hearts of many simply by being himself. Wolfe reminisced about their time together on American Pickers, the reality series from The History Channel, recalling, “Who would have ever dreamed we would share the cockpit of a white cargo van in front of millions of people interested in our adventures?”
He continued, noting that before the show, they traveled together to unknown places, driven only by their shared passion for discovering interesting and historic items.
“I feel blessed that I was there by his side when he took one last journey home,” Wolfe expressed, adding, “I love you, buddy, and will miss you so much. I know you’re in a better place.”
In a statement to PEOPLE, Fritz’s manager, Bill Stankey, described him as “an exceptional human being.” He praised Fritz’s love for life and his care for others, stating, “He always had a kind word to say, and he knew more about Americana and antiques than anyone I ever met.”
Stankey concluded his statement by emphasizing Fritz’s importance, saying, “He was the anchor of American Pickers. He will be missed by his friends, family, and fans.”
Despite having experienced ups and downs in their friendship—Fritz had previously stated in 2021 that he hadn’t spoken to Wolfe in two years—the two had reconnected. When Fritz suffered a stroke in 2022, it was Wolfe who informed fans of the situation.
“I have been very private in the past year regarding Frank’s life and the journey he’s been on,” Wolfe shared on Instagram. “Now is not the time to set the record straight. Now is the time to pray for my friend. Frank has suffered a stroke and is in the hospital. Please keep him in your hearts and thoughts.”
